The Task
The students will gather information on laboratory safety, how to use safety equipment, and how to avoid accidents. Students will complete a scavenger hunt on lab safety to gain knowledge. As groups, students will use this knowledge to create a song/rap or poem and create a safety poster to be displayed in the classroom. These will be preformed in class. After completion of the Lab Safety Webquest, students will take a quiz based on the learned knowledge.

The Process

1. Scavenger Hunt on Lab Safety

On your own and using the internet, complete the Lab Safety Scavenger hunt provided by your teacher. All questions must be answered in complete sentences using the information provided. Make sure all questions are answered properly. The answers can be found on the websites provided within the scavenger hunt.

2. Safety Song or Poem

Using the information gained from the scavenger hunt, you and your group will write an original song/rap or poem about a safety rule(s). You will need to perform the song or read the poem to the class. You may use music (approved by the teacher) and/or props. Be creative!

3. Safety Poster

Students will create a safety poster depicting a safety rule. Keep in mind this is an individual assignment! You may get ideas and suggestions from your group members but you must complete the poster by yourself. This safety poster may NOT have any words written on it and must clearly depict the safety rule. These posters will be displayed around the room as reminders to students during future laboratory investigations of the safety rules. Please make sure they are easily seen. Be creative!
